DURHAM, N.C. -

A Durham man is in the hospital after being hit by a car Wednesday morning while trying to cross U.S. 70 near Lynn Road.

Durham Police say Keith Lamont Small, 64, stepped into the path of an eastbound 2004 Mazda driven by Douglas Lynn Turner of Durham.

Investigators determined that Turner's "view was obstructed by a vehicle in the adjoining lane and he did not see Small."

Small was transported to Duke University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Turner, however, was not injured in the accident.

Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident and charges are not anticipated to be filed.

Traffic on U.S. 70 was slowed for more than an hour due the accident.
