Nonprofit sets sights to donate 75 computers to students without home PCs through fundraiser
CARY- On August 8 a local nonprofit will host a race event in Cary to raise money to refurbish computers for local children who cannot afford them. The event will consist of a one-mile walk or 5K run held from 8:45-12:45 at Bond Park's Kiwanis Shelter.
The Purple Elephant Computer Factory for Kids!, the host of the race, is a Raleigh nonprofit committed to recycling and refurbishing computers. These efforts keep older computers out of landfills and place them in the hands of children who need them.
Typically these computers are sold at the low price between $100 and $200 in order to replace the cost of purchased parts. While this is a realistic discount for many families, in some cases this price is still too high.
To help offset these costs The Purple Elephant is hosting the first Purple Elephant Walk and Stampede, a 5K run or one-mile walk. All proceeds will go toward the purchase one of these refurbished computers for an underprivileged student at either the YWCA of Raleigh or the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club.
Registration is $25 for Adults and $15 for students. Group discounts are available, and registration forms can be found at www.purpleelephant.org
The Purple Elephant Walk and Stampede is sponsored by the Purple Elephant Computer Factory for Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to bridge the technology gap by placing computers into the hands of kids who need them. ###
