Triangle United Way's board of directors unanimously approved changing the organization's name to United Way of the Greater Triangle, effective immediately. The name change better reflects and represents the far reaching efforts of the organization and all those who Give - Advocate - Volunteer.

In explaining the name change, board member Kurt Weaver of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC said, "We all are aware of the Triangle's dramatic growth over the past several years and that growth has come with an increasing geographical footprint for our employees who work in what we call the Triangle. However, people who work in the Triangle don't just live in Durham, Orange and Wake counties anymore. We looked at the future of the Triangle United Way by planning for continued growth of our overall organization while adhering to the historical autonomy of any county that we might add to what we call the local United Way."

Currently the United Way of the Greater Triangle has partner agency programs that serve the needs of one in four people in Durham, Orange and Wake counties. The United Way focuses on advancing the common good through the building blocks that are a foundation for a good life: education, income, health and safety.

"United Way's ultimate goal is to prevent problems from happening in the first place, and we're also maintaining a strong focus on long-term goals for change that will impact the Triangle's quality of life," said Craig Chancellor, president and CEO of the United Way of the Greater Triangle.
