Raleigh Police Chief Harry Dolan and Saint Augustine's College President Dianne Boardley Suber met at the College on Thursday to discuss policing efforts in the community that surrounds the campus.
Dolan's visit was a follow-up to a previous meeting with Dr. Suber. Topics discussed included community policing, strategies to protect students and possible collaborations between the Raleigh Police Department and the College.
Suber initially met with Dolan to discuss student safety and the area that surrounds the campus. It was their first meeting since 16-year-old Adarius Monquell Fowler was fatally shot Nov. 21, 2008, at the intersection of Oakwood Avenue and Tarboro Road. Suber plans to continue to work with city officials to improve the area.
"Chief Dolan and the Raleigh Police Department have done a commendable job in providing a police presence in the area," Suber said. "Working together, we can continue to make our community safer for our students and those who live in and travel through the neighborhood.
Other Raleigh Police Department staff members in attendance were Michael Ballen, Community Policing Coordinator and Lt. S.M. Deans. Dr. Ronald Brown, vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Services, and Campus Police Chief Jerry Barbry also attended the meeting on behalf of the College.
