The Dead Sea Scrolls are leaving Raleigh this weekend.
The exhibit that began June 28 at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences ends Sunday. The exhibit originally was supposed to end Dec. 28 but was extended. The museum also extended its hours.
Museum officials say they don't know how many people have attended the exhibit. A spokeswoman says at least 85 percent to 90 percent of the 2,000 slots available each day have been filled since Dec. 26.
The scrolls contain the oldest known copy of the Hebrew Bible. They date back more than 2,000 years and are considered one of the most important archaeological finds ever.
A Bedouin shepherd accidentally found them while chasing a runaway sheep in 1947.
