Durham County Government Recognizes Thanksgiving Holiday

DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham County offices will close on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. On Monday, December 1, all offices will reopen and resume their normal operation at 8:30 a.m.

Durham County Library will close at 6 p.m. on November 26:

Durham County Libraries will close all locations at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26. All branches will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. All branches will reopen on Monday, December 1 and operate under their normal hours of operation.

County Convenience Centers will not receive garbage on November 27, or November 28:

The Durham County General Services Department will close its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Centers to the public on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Durham County residents with a current solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items on Saturday, November 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Durham County's roadside recycling collection for the week of November 24 will be collected on Saturday, November 29 instead of Wednesday, November 26. Residents on Recycling Schedule B are asked to set out their recycling bins prior to 7 a.m. on the day of pick up.

Used cooking oil may now be taken to the Redwood and Bahama Convenience Centers only. Liquid oils only. Heavier fats, such as griddle grease and animal fat, will not be accepted.

Durham County Social Services to follow County's closing schedule:

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. To report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect, citizens should call 911 to reach an on-call social worker. DSS will reopen under its normal schedule on Monday, December 1.
