The Capital Area Workforce Development Board opened six employment centers at churches and community centers in Kenly, Raleigh, Selma, and Smithfield Thursday. It's part of the SHARE network, which stands for sharing how access to resources empowers.

The hope is that people who cannot get to large job centers at colleges or government buildings will go to these centers, said David Goodine, pastor of Mitchener Memorial Baptist Church in Smithfield, one of the churches hosting a center.

"When you move these facilities or institutions into the community itself, somewhere that they feel at home at, somewhere they feel at ease at, they're more likely to come into those areas," he said.

People will be able to search for jobs online, get help writing resumes, send faxes, and make phone calls at the centers.

Church members like Tania Jones-Boland volunteered to help. She knows what it takes to search for a job. That's what she has been doing for the past year.

"Unfortunately I am a part of the recession," she said.

Another volunteer, Dorothy McGhaney-Jones, lost her job a month ago. She will be looking for work along with the people at the center.

"I'm always hopeful. I'm always sure that there's something there for me," she said
