Some local college students had the chance to travel the world--in just one day.
Johnston County Community College hosted its third annual International Festival Thursday. This year's event showcased authentic foods, dance and cultural exhibits from 16 countries.
"One of the priorities here at JCC is to globalize our curriculum," said Heather Murphy, coordinator of global education and outreach at the college. "So we're really trying to give the students here more of a world prospective."
New to this year's festival was a Henna tattoo artist, that proved to be a hit among the hundred or so festivalgoers. Several business vendors, including Taste of China restaurant, allowed participants to sample foods from countries including Uruguay, Mexico and the Americas. The Johnston County Health Department also was on hand, giving healthcare information both in English and Spanish, Murphy said.
