RALEIGH, N.C. -

The wife of the man accused of heading a North Carolina-based terrorist group is defending her family's innocence.

In a television interview Tuesday, Sabrina Boyd spoke out against the claims of a terrorist indictment that names her husband Daniel Boyd, and sons Zakariya and Dylan.

"I am very proud to be Muslim, very proud to be married to Daniel Boyd, and I am very proud of my children," she said.

"I will say that we do own guns in our home as our Constitutional right allows us. I don't think there's a crime in that. As far as the other allegations, I find them false. And I know that my husband and my sons are free of guilt. I'm hopeful that the truth will come to light."

She said her husband purchased guns legally, and that he would sometimes do target practice with his sons, who are Eagle Scouts. She claims Middle East trips cited in the indictment as part of a terrorist plot to engage in violent jihad, were family pilgrimages to the Holy Land-- including one to mourn the loss of their son who died in a car accident in 2007.

"We had agreed that to go to the Holy Land and pray for our son would be a positive action, and it would help console us. It would be in a place where we felt, Islamically, we could do the most good for our beloved departed," Mrs. Boyd said.

Boyd said the Koran teaches her family to be example citizens and good neighbors, and that the community should not jump to conclusions regarding the allegations.

"We tried to make sure that all the men in the family went to Mosque every Friday," she said. "The Muslims here are good people. The Muslims of the United States are trying to practice their faith like anybody else."

The federal indictment claims Daniel Boyd trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and that he began recruiting others in North Carolina to wage jihad overseas.

Seven people have been indicted in the case. Authorities are searching for an eighth person, who is thought to be in Pakistan.
