A Cleveland charity will soon begin a lending program that will give children in the community an opportunity to borrow books for free.
Basic Needs Ministry, located at 5533 Highway 42 west, has collected more than 9,000 books donated by residents and area churches.
The non profit organization will not charge the public for its book lending and each family can borrow up to 10 books for 14 days. Families will only be available to borrow books on Mondays and Saturdays.
"Each child that comes in here, we try to make sure they get involved in reading and we give it to them to take home and then they come back and get other books," explained Linda Stevens, a volunteer with Basic Needs Ministry.
"It's just fun and you can aspire to get smarter everyday," said 9-year-old Savannah Dennis.
Officials at Basic Needs Ministry say they are looking for volunteers to help out with the program.
If they get enough people to volunteer, the charity can open more days to allow children to borrow books.
If you would like to volunteer, call Basic Need Ministry at 919-661-6565.
The program is expected to begin on Saturday, August 16th.
