The assests of a Raleigh man accused of running a multi-million dollar ponzi scheme hit the auction block today.
Auctioneers sold property from the home and office of William Wise, a banker who police say defrauded investors out of $80 million in an elaborate Caribbean-based scheme.
A court seized Wise's property and ordered the auction to pay-back investors.
The sale included luxury cars, high-end wine, hundreds of women's designer accessories and a 7-carat diamond ring valued at $300,000.
"Because the auction is happening so close to the holidays, people are doing some holiday shopping, gift-giving and so theres some really great deals," Jessica Magee, a lawyer who helped organize the auction, said. "We've found that the bidding is strong."
Auctioneers hoped to raise more than $400,000 from the sale.

I was at this auction.......a few good prices, but there were other sales where people seemed to get in a bidding frenzy and paid way to much for these items. I found every item (that I was interested in) on ebay at much better prices. It was a fun experience. The first auctioneer was great. You could understand every word he said. When he took a break and the older gentleman took over, we could barely understand anything he said.
