WAKE COUNTY, N.C.

What do books, picnic dinners, excited children and rain have in common? It would be the 5th annual Picnic and a Book at Lynn Road Elementary school. This annual event kicks off the school's PTA Reading Incentive Program that encourages all students to take time for twenty-reading 20 minutes per day for the school year. This year's wet weather forced the school to take the picnic indoors for the first time but that did not dampen the spirits of the students as they enjoyed sharing a meal with their classmates and then listening to stories shared with them by the school principal, Eloise Sheats and various guest readers. The highlight of the evening was the presence of the new school board member who represents the Lynn Road students on the Wake County School Board, Carolyn Morrison. Dr. Morrison is not a stranger to Lynn Road as she was a former principal of the school. To show her Lynn Road pride, she presented her story wearing her very own Lynn Road t-shirt that was older then most of the students present for the event. The PTA presented Ms. Morrison with a current Lynn Road t-shirt to update her wardrobe. The PTA and the school is setting the bar high for their students this year, last year the students were able to rack up over one million minutes of reading, this year the sky is the limit.
