Local tile artist Marina Bosetti unveils inspired masterworks at new exhibit opening October 8 at The Clayton Center

Not Your Mother’s Tile

October 2, 2009 (RALEIGH, N.C.) – If your thoughts of tile are solid colored squares you choose from for your kitchen backsplash or bathroom border, think again. You will want to see the newest creative inspirations of local ceramic tile artist Marina Bosetti to be unveiled next week at The Clayton Center Gallery in downtown Clayton, N.C. An artist’s reception will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, Thursday, October 8, 2009; it is free and open to the public.

Presented by Clayton Visual Arts, the show will feature three distinct series of works by Bosetti, owner of Bosetti Art Tile in Raleigh, N.C. Featured works will include a Divine Mothers series representing the feminine side of Divine Consciousness, a Circus series and a Floral series. More than 40 pieces will be exhibited and for sale.

Bosetti is particularly excited about the Divine Mother series, which was inspired by “negativity.” Bosetti explains, “The bad economic news on the radio was getting me down, so when a friend sent me a picture of Lakshmi (the goddess of abundance), I posted it on the wall above were I glaze. Every time something negative was said, I would look at Lakshmi, one of the four aspects of the divine mother, and smile at her. Together we’d acknowledge that abundance is in and around us at all times. She was inspiration at first sight.

“The pieces represent a blend of tradition and contemporary art,” Bosetti adds. “And while they are works of art that can be displayed as any other flat art form, they can also be incorporated into an individual’s home tile design in a very practical way. Either way, they can infuse personal expression and transformation into a living space.”

Bosetti’s creations enlist an ancient technique of "cuerda seca,” a cloisonné-inspired method created to mimic the look of mosaic. The process intensifies the richness of the ceramic glazes gives the tile a perceived texture of softness.

The exhibit runs through October 31, 2009, at The Clayton Center Gallery, located at 111 East Second Street in downtown Clayton, North Carolina; Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
