In just 18 days the West Johnston High School Marching Band will be the first band from Johnston County to have the honor of marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City! West Johnston was one of 6 high school bands chosen to march in the parade this Thanksgiving Day. The band will march 2 ½ miles through the city and have 75 seconds to perform at Herald Square in front of a crowd of thousands and a television audience of millions.
It's taken months of hard work and dedication by the band, directors, staff and supporting parents to get to this point-and there's still more work to be done. While the band is busy rehearsing their program, parents have been hand sewing flags, creating iron sculptures for the show, and raising the remaining funds required to get the band to New York. The band room at West Johnston High School is filled with Macy's stars with the names of people who have contributed $1.00 or more to the Macy's fund. To add your star to the wall, go to www.wjhsbands.org and click on donate.
Be sure to tune into NBC 17 on Thanksgiving morning to see the West Johnston High School Marching Band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! The band is grateful for all of the support they have received from the people and businesses in Johnston County and looks forward to proudly representing Johnston County and the state of North Carolina at the Macy's Parade.
