Think Smart Outreach Center recognized several educators and agencies with awards on Saturday including an East Clayton Elementary teacher and a Smithfield non-profit group that helps victims of violence.
Mandi Campbell, East Clayton Elementary teacher, is the winner of Think Smart's Educator Making a Difference Award. Campbell said, "There's nothing that I want more than to make a difference in the lives of others. For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of educating children and creating in each the true desire to learn."
Harbor, Inc. located in Smithfield provides shelter, transportation, re-location assistance, advocacy, support groups, court and hospital support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. By offering treatment plans and a safe place to stay, the group has helped over 10,000 victims since 1984. Harbor staff said, "We provide a beacon of light in our clients' time of darkness."
This is the second year the group has recognized leaders and agencies. This year's event was held at Dunn's Stewart Theater located at 114 N. Wilson Street.
More than 100 people attended the event that also included performances from the New Birth Choir, Triton High Drill Team, Arlie Honeycutt (2008 Johnston County Outstanding Teen), and Kinsie Howell (2008 Miss Johnston County).

Youth Outreach Award: 21st CCLC, Fayetteville, N.C.
Think Smart Outreach Center (TSOC) is funded in part by Harnett County Schools, N.C. DPI, United Way of Harnett, and other community groups.
Pamela Williams, TSOC Executive Director said " In addition to providing a safe place for kids to go after school, the agency offers homework study programs and opportunities for parents to become more involved in their child's life.
