August heat hardly conjures up an image of Thanksgiving Day, but members of the West Johnston High School band were likely in a holiday mood despite marching in 95-degree weather.
The Daily Record of Dunn reports that the band completed a two-week camp on Friday to prepare for their appearance in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Band director Lance Britt said the opportunity to be one of only six high school bands invited to march in the parade is an incredible opportunity for the 192 students participating, and no one is taking it lightly.
Performing in the spotlight is nothing new for West Johnston. In 2005, the band was invited to perform as part of the festivities for President George W. Bush's inauguration.
