The trio Voices of Glory, one of the top ten finalists on the show America's Got Talent, will perform in Clayton in a little more than a week.

It's a fundraiser for the Kids Café, an after school program that serves more than 40 children.

The children arrive at Kids Café, on Second Street in downtown Clayton, each day at 4 p.m.

They eat and spend the rest of the afternoon doing homework with tutors.

It sounds simple enough. But there's nothing else like it in Clayton.

Rachel Anderson's son, Sean, was struggling in school before he started going to the Kids Café.

"Homework used to be very much a nightmare when I got home," she said.

Not anymore.

"I have three As and a B," her son said. "I'm 10 points away from having straight As."

In the three years since Kids Café started, test scores are up. And students have a different attitude.

"We do have individuals who have improved as far as just their morale, just their outlook on life... And that's something that can't be quantified," said Michael Sims, the program's executive director.

The program is run almost entirely by volunteers, with support from local businesses and churches.

Dozens of students are on a waiting list.

Volunteers hope the benefit concert will allow them to help more students. And maybe even start Kids Cafes at other schools.

Voices of Glory will perform at the Clayton Center on Saturday, January 16. The concert also will feature gospel recording artists C3 Chozen.
