JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -

Even after two fires destroyed its place or worship, one Clayton church said it's still going strong.

Someone set fire to the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church on May 6 and again on June 6. No arrests have been made in either case.

But despite their church being gone, members are moving forward and helping the community. Sunday afternoon, they held an outreach festival just a few hundred feet from where their church once stood.

"We wanted to let the community know that the church was just a building; that we, as a church, are still here and we are standing as a light for God in the community," said Jenny Kanagy, a church member.

Church members said the last few months have been a challenge to get through.

"There were a lot of tears and sadness and just wondering why somebody would do this, burn down the house of God," said Joan King, a church member.

Still, most said they're no longer angry at what happend. Instead they're forgiving and moving forward.

"It's really important to know God and love God and He's out there and he's going to help us," said Rita Denley, a church member.

And they've seen that help in forms or support from the community, from financial to other churches opening their doors to help.

"We're seeing growth; we're seeing a community come together," said Kanagy. "Not just around a church, but around the people who are part of the community."

A community Mt. Calvary still belongs to and serves, building or not.
