CLAYTON, N.C. -

Over the past three days, Clayton Police have investigated 17 reports of damage to windows of local businesses.

The damage has totaled over $5,000 and has apparently been done using a BB / pellet gun or a "wrist rocket" / sling shot device.

Some projectiles have shattered windows and most have caused small chips at the impact points. The majority of these incidents are believed to have occurred between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and likely involved projectiles being shot or launched from a passing vehicle. Businesses on Main Street were victimized in 12 of the 17 cases thus far.

The investigation of these incidents is being conducted by the Detective Division. Following is a listing of the reported dates and locations of the damaged property:

Anyone with information about those responsible for these vandalism cases is asked to contact the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611. Callers may also contact Clayton Crime Stoppers at 359-TIPZ (8479). A considerable cash reward is available for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible. Callers may remain confidential.
