During the past several weeks, Clayton Police Narcotics Detectives have been working a “Doctor Shopping” case. The police department was alerted to the suspicious situation by an insurance provider.
The investigation in this case tends to indicate that the suspect had procured over 150 narcotic prescriptions from more than 50 identified physicians over a three-year period. Clayton Detective R.J. Moyer obtained warrants, and Patricia Ann Evans (56), of 2036 Willowhill Lane, Clayton, NC was arrested on Thursday, June 25th, after she voluntarily surrendered to authorities.
Evans was charged with 46 felony counts of Obtaining Controlled Substances by Fraud. In each of the 46 cases the suspect had received a prescription which was then filled at various pharmacies in Clayton during overlapping 30-day periods over the past three years.
Evans was confined in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $461,000.00 secured bond. Additional charges are likely in other jurisdictions.
