Two Hospitalized After Smithfield Fire

SMITHFIELD, N.C. -

Two people are safe after a fire broke out at a Smithfield home.

It happened in the 500 block of Caswell Street around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.

A neighbor called saw the fire and called 911.

According to fire investigators, the flames sparked in the kitchen where the stove was left on with a pan on top. Two people in the home crawled out a window to escape. They were transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The fire caused most damage to the kitchen and attic.
