The Skylines Café in Clayton will no longer allow customers to smoke inside.
The restaurant, located at US 70 Business Highway West, made the decision after complaints from customers, owner Tina Bolick said.
About a dozen customers left in just one week because they thought it was too smoky inside, she said.
"I just wanted to give everybody a choice. I didn't want to exclude anyone from coming in here," she said.
Bolick sent an e-mail to customers asking what they thought about the restaurant going smoke-free.
More than 80 people responded saying they supported the idea. Only one person spoke out against it, Bolick said.
State lawmakers are considering a ban on smoking in nearly all public places. Bolick said she would have to read more about it to comment, but, "it is really up to the business owner, what is best for their business. And for me, this is such a small place that it doesn't work out," she said.
Skylines Café has a patio where customers can still smoke.
