Sheriff’s Office Identifies Body Found In Dumpster Near Benson

BENSON, N.C. -

Authorities say a Florida man has been found dead in a trash bin at an Interstate 40 rest stop in North Carolina.

Johnston County Sheriff's Office officials identified the man Wednesday as 59-year-old Randal Ray Rockwell of Clermont, Fla. His body was found Tuesday evening by a rest stop attendant who was taking out the trash. The stop is near Benson, about 30 miles south of Raleigh.

The state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill determined he died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff's officials said no criminal charges will be filed.
