Friends and family members are saying goodbye to Maryland Gomez, the 61-year-old woman killed when a tornado hit Kenly early Saturday morning.
Dozens of people attended a memorial service at Minshew-Coley funeral chapel in Kenly Tuesday night, including her husband, Argiro Gomez, who survived the tornado and got out of the hospital Wednesday.
Before the service, he said that he expected this to be the toughest day since losing his wife.
"I only live one day at a time, I don't think about... yesterday is gone for me. Tomorrow, if it comes let it be. But, as I told my son, the worst that's gonna happen, it's gonna be the day of the wake," he said.
Mr. Gomez broke several ribs and has other injuries. His home on Scott Road was destroyed. For the moment, he is staying with a neighbor who rented a house in town after the tornadoe.
