SMITHFIELD, N.C. -
Johnston County Public Utilities reports a broken water main on NC 42 near I-40. The report indicates a construction contractor may have caused the break.
As a result, the Cleveland community's water system is temporarily out of service so that the main may be repaired. Public Utilities says water service should be restored to the area by late afternoon on Friday.
Any customer who had their water service interrupted will be under a "boil water advisory" until further notice.
During a boil water advisory, it is recommended that water be boiled for several minutes before consuming to eliminate any potentially harmful bacteria.
