CLAYTON, N.C.

Cleveland School Rotary Club members got an education in the effects of substance abuse, specifically Inhalant Abuse, the signs the everyday citizens can look for in their friends, families, and colleagues, and the preventative measures that can be taken.  Nick Petrakis, owner of Petrakis Agency in Garner, was the guest speaker for today's program.  He spoke of his brother's ordeal with drug abuse throughout the years and how he passed away in May 2008 at the age of 37 from Inhalant Abuse.

Nick showed a short compelling video about the dangers and warning signs of Inhalant Abuse.  He even provided a pamphlet detailing tips for talking to children and teens as well as what to do in case of an emergency.

As Nick began to learn more and more about this societal issue and what caused his brother to die at such an early age, he decided he had to get the message out to the community.  Nick has been making his way through community groups, like Rotary Clubs, to tell his personal story and to get the word out to the citizens of the Triangle.

An interesting item of note, as Nick has done his research on how best to present the message, he has found out through the Alliance for Consumer Education (the entity that provides the informational packets he distributes) that he is the only one in the state of North Carolina that is delivering the message.

Mr. Petrakis continues to make it his mission to get the word out.  If you'd like more information on the subject of Inhalant Abuse or would like to have Nick speak at your next meeting, please contact him at Nick@triangleinspro.com.  He is scheduled to be presenting at local YMCAs, church groups, and is hoping to coordinate with local schools as well.

The Cleveland School Rotary meets each Wednesday at Noon at Chops Steakhouse on Cleveland School Road in the 40/42 area.  For more information, please contact Jennifer Young at jenniferpyoung@hotmail.com.  Please feel free to join us for a meeting!
